Cox Discusses Plan to Cut “Jobs Tax” in Half- Then Eliminate It – in New “Reform of the Day” Segment
LIVONIA, MI— Mike Cox today discussed his plan to cut the Michigan Business Tax- the “Jobs Tax”- in half, then eliminate it in a new “Reform of the Day” web video at MikeCox2010.com.
“With the highest unemployment rate in the nation, the first priority for Michigan’s next governor must be bringing jobs and job providers back to the state,” said Cox. “My first step as governor in January 2011 will be to cut the M.B.T.- the jobs tax- by 50 percent and then phase it out completely to tell job makers Michigan is finally “open for business.”
According to the Tax Foundation, Michigan has the 3rd worst business tax structure in the United States causing high unemployment and a lack of diversity in our economy. Chief Executive Magazine recently surveyed over 500 national business leaders and judged Michigan the 3rd worst place to do business. As one executive told the survey, Michigan is “an absolute regulatory and tax disaster.”
Cox will cut the MBT in half. This one move moves Michigan from the 3rd worst business tax structure in the nation to 7th best.
The “Reform of the Day” web segment regularly highlights individual reforms from Cox’s 92 point plan to put Michigan back to work.
Cox is the only candidate for Governor to release a comprehensive 92 point plan to put Michigan back to work, including proposals to cut billions of dollars out of the state budget, cut taxes on job providers and families by $2 billion, reform education, make government more transparent and revitalize our cities. The plan is available at www.mikecox2010.com.
