Cox: Michigan Can’t Afford another Granholm Tax Hike
LIVONIA, MI— Mike Cox today responded to Governor Granholm’s nationally televised call for higher taxes, telling the Governor there are better ways to fund education than by killing Michigan jobs.
“Michigan can’t afford another tax increase,” said Cox. “Unfortunately, Governor Granholm’s only answer to Lansing’s problems is one tax hike after another.
“Michigan businesses and families have been tightening their belts for years and deserve leadership in Lansing that fully funds education without raising taxes. Instead of driving even more job makers out of Michigan, Granholm should try a different approach and focus on cutting spending and forcing state government to live within its means.”
Granholm appeared today on MSNBC and renewed her call to raise taxes on Michigan residents and businesses.
Earlier today, Mike Cox discussed his plan to cut the Michigan Business Tax- the “Jobs Tax”- in half, then eliminate it in a new “Reform of the Day” web video at MikeCox2010.com.
“My first step as governor in January 2011 will be to cut the M.B.T.- the jobs tax- by 50 percent and then phase it out completely to tell job makers Michigan is finally “open for business,” Cox said.
